In 2023 we raised an incredible $7,000 for our charity partner Heathcote Dementia Alliance who work tirelessly in their quest to reimagine dementia care. With an estimated 104,000+ people living with dementia in Victoria alone we believe they’re doing very important work and we are excited to see that they are making great progress. Since last year’s event Heathcote Dementia Alliance have opened ‘Costerfield House’, a prototype for their new Care Cabins concept.
So what is a Care Cabin? These mobile 1.5 bedroom homes are outfitted with the latest supportive artificial intelligence, assisted technology and design so that people living with dementia can live safely and independently whilst retaining their dignity and sense of self. The cabins can be located on a family member’s property or in a Community Cluster – a concept that would include both individual and shared spaces.
To highlight Heathcote Dementia Alliance’s hard work and to show you exactly what you’re contributing to by taking part in our event, we’ve remodeled our courses so that you’ll be running past the impressive ‘Costerfield House’, located on the grounds of Heathcote Health. So keep an eye out at the beginning of your run and you’ll find representatives from Heathcote Dementia Alliance at the Barrack Reserve who will be happy to chat about this inspiring initiative.
