You’re invited to take on our Virtual O’Keefe Challenge this weekend or anytime until May 3!
Just run or walk 5km or more and share with us some proof to be a part of this celebration of healthy living and the Heathcote Dementia Village.
What’s a virtual challenge?
- You’ve already set your goal – so this is a great way to keep healthy and active.
- Complete a run or walk of at least 5km any over the ‘traditional’ O’Keefe Challenge weekend (17 – 19 April 2020 and anytime until May 3).
- PLEASE make sure that it’s safe and in accordance with the health guidelines. (You can even do it on a treadmill if you’d like!)
- Record it on your device and upload it, either to Strava, Runkeeper or Garmin Connect.
- Email us a link to your ‘proof’ at hello@theokeefe.com.au
- Celebrate it with the O’Keefe Challenge family via Strava, Facebook or Instagram (tag us @okeefechallenge)
- Certificates will be emailed out to everyone who completes the challenge.
- Prizes will be awarded and posted out for the most creative (not necessarily the fastest) efforts from the weekend.
How can I enter?
If you had already entered for the O’Keefe Challenge, it’s FREE!
If you hadn’t yet entered, we kindly ask that you make a donation of the value of your choice to our Charity partner, the Heathcote Dementia Village Project. We recommend $15, but it’s really up to you! Click here to make a donation >
Where can you do this Challenge?
Anywhere you like!
You can even do it on a treadmill if you’d like! Or on Zwift. Or around your streets at home. Or a local lake or park.
What about on the O’Keefe Rail Trail?
The O’Keefe Rail Trail and Heathcote area is always a great choice, but right now, this is only good IF you live in the area local to the trail. Please note we are advising against unnecessary travel in line with the current health guidelines.
There may be basic ‘startline’ markers on the trail for those wishing to know where the events traditionally start. Please note there won’t be any kilometre markers on course.
Again, the O’Keefe Rail Trail is encouraged as a good option only for those living in the local area who wish to enjoy the trail/s. We all have to do a bit to stay at home and flatten the curve wherever possible.
Check out the maps on our Run page >
SAFETY NOTE:
We – the O’Keefe Challenge committee – will not be providing any on-course support or medical assistance at all for this virtual challenge. This is totally up to you and you participate at your own risk.
There’ll be NO road closures or marshals in place, so you’ll need to give way to traffic where ever you are.
Please take all the necessary health and safety precautions.
Please make sure you are up to the physical effort required – we don’t need any extra people heading into hospitals right now.
Maybe even have a friend or family member ride alongside you on a bike (social distancing rules still apply)
On a brighter note – we hope you’re keeping safe, wherever you are – and can’t wait to see you in 2021!
